St. Albert Achieves Partners for Climate Protection Milestone

The City of St. Albert has been recognized for achieving a new milestone for corporate and community greenhouse gas emissions on behalf of the FCM-ICLEI Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program. This is the fifth milestone in the PCP program that St. Albert has achieved. Milestone 5 represents progress toward local greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets and has reported results from corporate operations and community initiatives. The City of St. Albert is proud to show leadership and progress on this important issue.

St. Albert is part of a special group of municipalities in Canada that have achieved the fifth milestone in the PCP framework, which demonstrates clear leadership on energy and GHG emissions management. The City of St. Albert has conducted efficiency audits at 11 different City facilities, updated the Idle-Free Bylaw and created a home energy assessment toolkit, all of which have all contributed to achieving this milestone.

The five program milestones the City has accomplished are:

  • Create GHG emissions inventory and forecast – Completed in 2010
  • Set GHG emissions reduction targets – Completed in 2010
  • Develop local action plan – Completed in 2012
  • Implement the local action plan – Ongoing since 2016
  • Monitor progress and report results – Completed in 2019

The PCP program is a network of Canadian municipalities committed to taking action to reduce GHG emissions corporately and throughout the community. The City of St. Albert was the 200th municipality to join the PCP program in 2010.
